Year by year

2026

Flutter apps

As an independent developer I design, build and publish apps on Google Play and the App Store.

  • Codici giuridici: Italian legal codes offline, updated daily from Normattiva by a Python pipeline.
  • Test Formazione Primaria: practice tests for the primary-teaching degree admission exam, with past papers from 31 universities. About 5,000 students use it every year.

2024

Evocity

Gruppo Maggiolisince October 2024

Technologies: Java 25, Spring Boot 4, Python, LangGraph, BigQuery, Airflow, Apache Beam, GKE

13 more

Spring Cloud Gateway, FastAPI, Liquibase, PostgreSQL, pgvector, Keycloak, Docker, Terraform, Helm, GitLab CI, JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers

Data engineering on Google Cloud (Airflow, Apache Beam on Dataflow, BigQuery), Spring Boot APIs and an AI agent in Python. The product is a smart city platform for municipalities.

  • Designed most of the data pipelines: Airflow, Apache Beam on Dataflow, incremental loads into BigQuery.
  • Ported to Python (FastAPI, LangGraph) the AI agent that answers natural-language questions on the data and took it to production, with RAG on pgvector and Langfuse evaluations.
  • Led the migration to Spring Boot 4 and Java 25, with OpenRewrite and JetBrains Junie.
  • Implemented multi-tenant authentication with Keycloak, JWT and Vault.
  • Adopted a code-first approach: the database schema comes from the JPA model and evolves with Liquibase.
More results
  • Built three JetBrains Junie agents for maintenance: they fix Renovate merge requests and pipeline errors on Composer and Dataflow, and one acts as a support bot on Slack.
  • Created the project knowledge base, a Markdown wiki maintained with an LLM, and the user guide.

2023

Home server

since 2023

Technologies: Docker, Immich, Home Assistant, Pi-hole, Tailscale, Python

7 more

Debian, Portainer, Syncthing, Rclone, Duplicati, NUT, bash

About twenty self-hosted Docker services, in daily use.

  • Containers: Docker and Portainer, with automatic updates.
  • Photos: Syncthing, rclone, Immich; Python cleanup script.
  • Network: internal DNS with Pi-hole, remote access only via VPN, encrypted disks.
  • Monitoring: scheduled checks, UPS management and automatic alerts.

2021

Open source

2020 – 2023

Contributions merged into the Java and Spring libraries I used at work, mostly with Azure. The main ones:

  • JHipster (2022–2023): new Elasticsearch Java client for Spring Boot 3, ArchUnit 1.0, a test for reactive apps, and the Elasticsearch docs for Spring Boot 3.
  • Seed4j, formerly JHipster Lite (2023): a Redis module.
  • Azure SDK for Java (2020–2021): chunked uploads above 4 MB in Storage File Share, a queue and topic name check in Service Bus, fixes to samples and docs.
  • Apache Tika Helm chart (2023): YAML that failed helm lint.
  • JPAStreamer (2021): a build that failed on annotated fields.
  • Java Design Patterns (2021): Lombok upgrade.

2020

Gruppo Maggioli

Senior Software Engineer, Barisince November 2020

Java and Spring Boot microservices in the cloud, first on Azure and then on Google Cloud. Two projects so far: Synbee and, since 2024, Evocity.

Synbee

Gruppo MaggioliNovember 2020 – October 2024

Technologies: Java 14 → 19, Spring Boot, JHipster, Elasticsearch, Azure Service Bus, Kubernetes, Spring WebFlux, Hazelcast

13 more

Spring AOP, JPA/Hibernate, Liquibase, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Cosmos DB, Elastic Cloud, Docker, Helm, GitLab CI, JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers

Spring Boot microservices generated with JHipster, on Azure and Kubernetes, communicating asynchronously over Azure Service Bus. The product is a cloud practice-management platform for professional firms.

  • Built the Elasticsearch search service: indexing via Service Bus, attachment text with Tika and OCR, zero-downtime reindexing.
  • Built the real-time notifications service with Spring WebFlux, Server-Sent Events and Hazelcast.
  • Led the migration of every microservice to Java 19 and JHipster 7.9.
  • Adopted a code-first approach: the database schema comes from the JPA model and evolves with Liquibase.
More results
  • Introduced generative AI with Langchain4j and Azure OpenAI, to generate realistic demo data.
  • Quality: ArchUnit, Testcontainers in GitLab CI, SonarQube.

Bots and automation

Python scripts and bots that do the repetitive work for me:

  • Sannicandro News: a Telegram bot that posts news about my town. Still running today, on GitHub Actions.
  • VarieTee Bot: a Telegram bot that scrapes the t-shirts of the day every morning and posts them to a channel.
  • Hospital Result Checker: a Selenium scraper that polls the hospital portal until a swab test result appears and sends it on Telegram.

2019

CFJ Manager

Technologies: PHP, MySQL, jQuery, Bootstrap, Docker

A people and course management system for Casa Frate Jacopa: registry, enrolments, calendar, email. It has been in use ever since, and I still maintain it.

2018

Lead Software Engineer

KlopotekOctober 2018 – October 2020

Promoted from Software Engineer to Lead Software Engineer at Klopotek. On top of development, planned user stories and tasks in sprint planning with the Product Owner, Development Manager and QA Manager.

2017

Competitive programming

2017 – 2022

Algorithm contests, alone and in teams, with my solutions published on GitHub.

  • Google Code Jam: round 1A in 2017, qualification round passed in 2020. Solutions in Java.
  • Advent of Code: the December puzzles from 2020 to 2022, in Java and then Kotlin.
